An Fhirinne in aghaidh an tSaoil! "The truth facing the world".
Searls O'Dubhain defines Draíocht as the truth against the world. truth is the Druids prime virtue. In old Irish tales, if someone told a lie, it would cause blemishes such as sores on the face, and buildings to collapse around the liar. A single untruth could make a cause fail, and even lead to one's death. Only speaking fir flathemon (truth of Sovereignty) could rectify such things. When King Lugiad gives a false judgment, the courthouse begins to fall around them. However when Cormac Mac Airt gives true judgment the people cry out "This is the truth!" The truth magically restores the courthouse and Cormac becomes sovereign. The appearance of a king or queen in the texts is symbolic in many ways to the divine self, this is important to the study of Draíocht because acting from a place of truth is the root of a Druids magic.
"It was in ships that the Tuatha de Danann the tribe of the goddess Danu came. They came from the north, and the clouds and mists that concealed them it made it easy for them to land in Ireland at La baal Tinne, the first of may, unseen and unopposed by the Fir Bolg. From where they came and fought their struggle for poetry, truth, and perfect wisdom were four great cities. Falias, Gorias, Finias, and rich Murias. It was these cities from which they brought their four greatest treasures. From Falias came the stone of Fal the Lia Fail, their stone of virtue and of destiny, which cried out when touched by the rightful king. From Gorias they brought with the the spear of victory, which no battle was ever won against. From Finias, they brought the sword of truth, and those who deserved it's stroke could never recover. From Murias they brought they brought the cauldron of the Dagda, the cauldron of plenty, from which no company ever went away unsatisfied.
A person is a magician when they know themselves, where you have come from and why you are here. Magic (contrary to popular belief at times) isn't the act of conjuring something out of nothing. Now for those who are disappointed, because they wanted to time travel or materialize objects, that the miracle is right before us right now. Did you know that if we could actually materialize an object out of thin air, that it would completely throw off the entire space time continuum and there by destroy the entire world?...No good that is! However from the eternal self it IS possible to bring about every manifestation in it's rightful time and place.
The most important question in the quest and exploration of Draíocht, are who am I? Why am I here? What is my eternal nature? How do I live and what do I bring fourth in the world? When I sit among friends for true sharing what do I pull fourth from my spirit.
Perhaps we can answer these questions here and help one another build them, to further our own individual quests for Draíocht.
