Tarot Spread: Freeze Frame of the Now
The predictive aspect of divination is vastly overrated. Past and present are really a “Rashoman” shell game, eternally fluid and intangible. All we really ever have is the “now” (whoops! All we have is the now… all we have is the now… lather, rinse, repeat).
The Universe is always talking to us (it never really shuts up, hence the importance of a really good focusing divice – like Tarot). The cards are a superb “satellite dish” for reeling in the choice bits of the Universe’s endless information stream.
This spread is a great way to take a snapshot of that “Now.” It is especially useful when you want to work with a quickly done, quickly understood yet meaningful reading that cuts straight to the chase.
After shuffling and cutting, lay four cards out as follows:
5 (optional card)
1 2 3
4
1. Where you are coming from – things that are resolving or
passing but are still making their presence felt.
2. Where you are now – what is grabbing your attention,
what needs to be addressed. (the “now” de la now)
3. Where it looks like things are going, things to prepare or
look for.
4. Foundation – what you need to remember; this often
represents sources of strength that you may have
forgotten or were unaware of, or things that you may have
been ignoring but now need to incorporate in your focus.
You can also draw a 5th card that I call “the next turn of the Wheel” – a sort of preview of coming attractions that can give an indication of where things are going given what is happening “Right Now”. This can also be used as a stepping off point for a more detailed reading.
