Hi all, Just registering in the wee hours, got a nudge to come here from one of ya at MySpace. I was asked as I was seen as an Odinist, though that's not totally accurate; I'm an asatruar with no real patron yet. Though I pay special attention to the Old Man and Njord, that doesn't really count. Well, here I am! Thanks for the hospitality. Let's see what trouble I can get into.

It was me that PMed you Heathen, I wondered if you'd remember me from that awful flame war on myspace. When I saw they had banned you I hoped you'd come share some knowledge with our clan...100,000 welcomes before and welcome to our community!

Hails HeathenHammer! It is great to have an Asatruar on the forum! I look forward to reading your posts! Yeah it is, I've been wanting to post my thoughts on the subject but I wouldn't have had anyone one to discuss them with.

You'll find we have a fairly good group here, many of us experienced a good taste of what you did on Myspace on another forum. We're missing one or two of our regulars, like Pel and Jampot, who are probably just busy. Welcome to the family!

I thought an Odinist, and Asatruar were the same though? That's what I *thought* I read on that article I posted anyhow.

:heart Maggie!: I got her to come, Sembecc. And by the way chief... yeah, sorry, I'm in this phase where I wanna go to those forums every day and just STOMP the crap out of people for their fallacious logic and bible thumping. RAWR! Friggin seein' red there every day. Sorry guys, I should be a better guest there. Anyways.. I don't think Odinist and asatruar are interchangeable, but that is just me. An 'Odinist' is in practice dedicated specifically to Odin. Often times they tend to either follow the hardcore berserker route, or the forbidden seidr route. It's a pretty heavy road to follow, given all of the Allfather's attributes; perilous, I would say. I guess an 'asatruar' is a more generic term. Also, an aside, people talking about racist white asatruar in prison almost always call them 'Odinists' [as they call themselves], so I got that pricking me too..

:heart Maggie!: I got her to come, Sembecc. And most welcome she is! I'm glad to see your enjoying the boards enough to invite your freinds, and also hope Maggie will feel the same way! Well, here once you have an account and are posting your family, and will be treated as such, though I know on myspace there were some who certainly brought out the worst of my nature as well...To say the least. Trust me I understand. I'd imagine your right, I always thought they were different, but then after that article, it kind of got me thinking maybe hey were the same, I'm glad to have someone among us who can clear these things up! That actually sounds like an interesting topic of conversation! That is if it wouldn't be to close to home?

No, nothing offensive to me personally or anything.
Sure, if you want to talk about it... I am not sure how it began but several asatru groups do active 'ministry' work in prisons because there appears to be a tendancy for skinheads with a racist bent to somehow call themselves Odinists. IF the people in question are racist white power types, anyway; I mean given how we drink and brawl and dont take much shit there have got to be alot of asatruar doing time for assault and whatnot.
There's nothing specific in the lore anywhere that I've seen that somehow says it's OK to hate people who are not like you. Although asatru is a tribal and indigenous religion, there is nothing that says those who are not asatruar are less than you. Though I imagine the whole PC accept-everyone thing may have more modern roots and the general consensus is that if you are of north european decent, it makes sense for you to be Tru and if you're from elsewhere it makes sense that you would be something else; still, never have I seen anything that alludes to any superior/inferior dichotomy.
And yet, as the KKK somehow uses odd passages of the bible to say that blacks are inferior and to be hateful of Jews of all people, also some racists think that by declaring themselves children of Odin that somehow something of the Nordic past justifies their superior white attitide. Frankly most public asatru groups who publish info about themselves make it very clear that there is no racism tolerated in them, even going so far as to making absolutely specific statements in their bylaws. Even the theodish, who for the most part are VERY ethnocentric as to who can join their kindreds and base it very largely on specific geographical descent, do NOT advocate direct racism in any way [though I am sad to hear from a pal that a group they've encountered seem to do the opposite].
I think also that hatred gets the most press. We see bad news every day and the positive things people do get less air time. I am a member of the dreaded broadcast media so I know this is true. Misery sells more than cheerfulness. So when you hear the term 'Odinist' in the news odds are that it's because some asshole stomped some poor black guy and was wearing a Thor's Hammer at the time. Or some equally depressing and absurd shit.
Words of wisdom I once heard: A racist skinhead has as much to do with Odin as he does to Mr. Clean: a purely cosmetic relationship.
