Apache Burden Baskets were small open baskets hung at the entrance to the lodge or home. When you arrived home from the day's work, you would place your burdens and worries of the day into the burden basket outside the home. By not taking your worries and burdens into the home with you, you will preserve the domestic tranquility of the home.
I just read about these today and I love the idea. How many times have we carried the weight of the day home to our families, including the rush-hour drive and more? This basket, hanging at the door, would remind everyone to leave their day outside and not carry it into the tranquility and peace of the home.

That is a really great idea, and it would be an excellent way to remember to leave the the troubles of the day in the past where they belong, and enjoy some time at home with our loved ones. I intend to go around to a few stores today and look for one to put up in my own home.

I'm going to make one with my daughter, including lengths of leather with metal beads beneath it to catch the wind as it blows... to 'empty the basket'...
Glad you liked it. I'll keep looking for more!
