Repost, for my Everlasting Gobstopper...
Is This a Dream?
Have you ever experienced something in a dream and then found yourself in that same situation? Doing exactly what you had envisioned in your dream? You feel like its deja vu, or maybe you're left feeling like it was never a dream, but a premonition that you'd had. Maybe it could even be a glimpse of the future.
You can't really explain it, your mind races, trying to find some logical explanation for what is happening to you. But you cant.
Maybe, you dont really want to understand, because then you wouldnt be able to explain other things that are going on in your life.
Or maybe it goes beyond all the things that you were led to believe as a child. Shattering everything that you knew as real and true.
Whats real now? What can you believe in now? How is this going to impact your life as you know it? Does it shatter your sense of reality?
What are you going to do now? Is there a way to rebuild? Has your world crumbled while you stood by and watched? Maybe youve lost your mind.
Then again, what if you havent? You know that will surely happen if you continue with the irrational thinking that you are focusing on right now.
What will you do? You fight with your emotions, beliefs, and this horrendous notion that there is nothing you can do now. Do you find yourself thinking that your only choice is to run? ...
So you flee. You dont give it any other thought. You know that action is reaction. You run. You run, you run without thinking. In your heart, that was the only choice.
You run, and you run, never aware of your surroundings, not your current state of undress. Just aware of the fact that you need to run. You dont question it. You just do it.
Run, run, run, farther away from whatever evil that made you flee. Surely it must have been evil, for you know the feeling in the pit of your stomach. Something scared you, you feel that now. Memories refuse to come, but it doesnt matter because your gut is telling you to keep moving. So you do. You keep going. You run.
You've run for a very long time now. You're tired; youre almost to the point of exhaustion. Will you keep running, or will you stop? Is it even safe to stop? You're not sure of anything now, but you do realize that the dread is slowly subsiding. Your gut is calming down. Maybe youll be alright if you stop. You just want to stop, just for a moment.
Wait! How can you stop? Will you be safe? How can you feel safe when you dont remember what caused you to run in the first place? How do you know its not hiding, waiting, waiting for you to stop? If you stop, it will catch you. It will overpower you. Its right behind you.
So you continue to run. As you run, you think to yourself and realize, that just a moment ago, you said It. How curious, you havent seen It. but somehow you know that It exists. You feel in your heart that It is right behind you. Maybe It is what caused you to run. What is It?
That ominous question looms in the back of your mind, in a sea of dread. Youre not sure, but you know that you must continue to keep moving. If you continue to move, youll be ok. Youll survive...
Survive! Has this been a matter of life and death this whole time? How could have turned from running out of fright into a matter of survival? You dont understand. How can you? The tidal wave threatens to overcome you.
Keep running; this isnt the time to figure this all out. You have to keep moving, keep running. Try to get farther away. You run. Youre gasping for air. Every breath you take burns in your chest. How will you manage to keep going? Wha!
You've tripped over something. In your haste youve clumsily tripped over your own feet. You feel yourself falling, plummeting towards the earth. FALLING, but, you were just on your feet moments ago running, and now you find yourself falling. If you simply tripped over your own feet, youd have hit your knees by now. Then how can you explain why youre still falling?
Falling, faster, and faster now. Your mind races, none of this makes a bit of sense. You try to find one ounce of logic, just one bit of useful information. What is happening? Has your brain gone out to lunch? You continue to fall. Falling faster now, you get that strange feeling in your stomach, the one that you sometimes have when you ride in an elevator. Thats how you know that you are truly falling. Falling towards the unknown.
THUD!!! The only part of your body that feels the impact is your legs. You sit straight up. Its very dark, so your eyes havent focused. You feel disoriented, but you know that youre awake and in your own bed. Your heart is racing a mile a minute and you know that you fell from somewhere. Your stomach still hasnt caught up with the rest of your body. You question why the only contact that you felt were your legs hitting the mattress? Damn strange. Were you dreaming?
This was not a dream! It wasnt! thats the just not possible. That was Not Just A Dream! It couldnt have been. Your mind is in turmoil, trying like hell to figure out what the fuck is going on. As you lay back onto your pillow, trying to clear your head, you see a movement out of the corner of your eye...
Then theres a noise, a small sound really, a faint clicking on the wooden floor. As you lie there in the darkness, your heart beating fast in your chest once again, you try putting a name to the sound. Its almost what a dogs nails would sound like walking across the wooden floor, which is peculiar because you dont own a dog. There has never been a Fluffy or a Pete, not even a Spot, so why the hell would there be a dog in the bedroom?
Click, click, click. The noise again. You throwback the blankets and get up. As you leave the bed, suddenly you see two yellow glowing orbs in the dark corner near your ratty old armchair. Wait. Not orbs. Eyes. Theyre eyes! They glow in the dark like a cats eyes but bigger. Not only that, but you swear you see malice in those glowing eyes.
You've lost all desire to investigate the noise now. You only want to get far away from those wickedly glowing eyes. Slowly you begin to back up, toward the foot of your bed, careful not to take your eyes off those near the corner. You quickly reach the bedroom door and reach behind yourself to turn the knob. For a moment, your hand does not find its target, just the hard wood of the door.
You start to panic and find yourself blindly groping for the knob. You quickly turn your head to find it. Click, click, click. You jerk your head back around. The eyes are no longer where they were a moment ago. Frantically you look back and forth only to find darkness surrounding you. To hell with this! you say to yourself and jerk the door open.
Your only thought is to get out of this room. You race down the hallway in your bare feet towards the stairs. Suddenly, something hits you hard from behind. The impact sends you forward, knocking you off balance. You go tumbling down the stairs.
As you look up the stairs, you are gripped by a fear so strong that you momentarily forget to breathe. You are unable to make any sound, for you would surely scream if you were able.
A sight like this would drive anyone to the brink of insanity, even over it. You quickly scramble backwards, trying like hell to get to your feet. The creature hisses at you. Almost like telling you that running is futile. Then, the impossible happens. It smiles at you and actually speaks! Run, it says, once again grinning at you. Run!
You're on your feet, uncertain of how and bolt toward the front door. You barely slow down enough to unlock it. As you flee the house, youre gripped not only by fear but also something like awe. That thing actually spoke to you. You would never have believed that something like this could be possible. Not even in your wildest dreams.
Although your mind is in utter turmoil, you resign yourself to action. After all, action is reaction isnt it? That feeling of deja vu flows over you. Brought on by the phrase.
What the fuck is going on? Theres no time to think now. No time for anything, just movement. You run. After all, you have no choice. It told you to run!
You run, and you run. You still havent been able to shake the feeling that youve done this before, but it doesnt matter. All that matters now is that you.
RUN!
