The Qaballa, one of many spellings, means "tradition" and the origin of this philisophical/magickal system is little known. There do seem to be elements of ancient Chaldean, Egyptian and even pre-Aryan Indian mysticism. In modern times it has become closely asscociated with the Jewish Hebrew culture.
Basically the magickal system is comprised of a "roadmap" of creation called the "Tree of Life." This tree shows a symbolic descent from the Divine to the material universe. There are ten "levels" to this tree and they are as follows:
The states of the Tree of Life are:
1 ) Kether (Crown) (Thinking)
2 ) Chokmah (Wisdom)
3 ) Binah (Understanding)
4 ) Chesed (Mercy)
5 ) Geburah (Power/Severity)
6 ) Tipheret (Beauty/Harmony)
7 ) Netzach (Victory)
8 ) Hod (Splendor/Glory/Love)
9 ) Yesod (Foundation)
10 ) Malkult (Physical World) (Action)
The entire scope of the tradition is much too large to attempt here. So this thread is going to focus on the practical magick side with it's rituals and ceremonies.
A good idea if you are interested in pursuing this system is to purchase Modern Magick by Donald Michael Kraig. His book covers spiritual development as well as using this system to help oneself!
