Recently a a neighboaring farmer cut down a big healthy tree across the stream from my house and when i questioned him as to why he cut it down he said he had run out of firewood! Well as you can imagine i was none to pleased. So what i have begun to do is plant my growing sycamore and ash trees along the other side of the stream on my land so that he can never cut them down.
Just wanted to raise again my questions earlier about using paper, cardboard etc etc. If people are concerned about cutting a twig from a tree.... shouldnt you not use paper and any other form of object made from the destruction of trees? I would use for the most part 100% recycled paper but none the less I am using the flesh of a tree for my own purpose and most of the time i dont even think of where it came from.

Yes, to question the use of paper is valid. I however am not going to use leaves and twigs in the bathroom, tried it once, never again! To bad a lot of things can't be recycled, like old cars. It seems feasible to melt them down for steel reuse. For a reason it's not done, probably hazardous to the air. Shame on your neighbor too...

I think there is a difference between ritualistic religious use, and pulling out a handful of toilet paper, also there is a difference between mass killing of forests, and the use of tree farms which are used for making paper products, and lumber etc. I think the act of asking the tree spirit for it's branch, is in the belief that a part of the spirit remains within the branch, something like the "phantom limb" phenomenon, where you can feel pain, itching, even movement of a severed limb...Well something like that anyway. If the branch is cut and taken, the tree spirit won't help you. That make any sense at all? lol

hmm yes i can see your point on the difference of ritualistic use... wasnt something i considered at first so thank you for that opinion I think though what i was trying to say is that although we all have different reasons for using trees, paper, wood etc the actual act of taking from trees is the same no matter what reason. Although it gives us peace of mind ofcourse believing that we do it for a more just reason than others. However it is the mass use of paper wordwide that leads to the unsustainable deforestation of the worlds forests. Tree farms are not enough to cover the huge amount of paper that society wastes and wastes... i supose though this is the society we live in... take take take without giving anything back. Which is why we must try to use recycled paper over and over again, which thankfully is becoming alot easier to do as alot of shops and offices are now changing to recycled paper. But infortunately not enough.

You've given me a lot to ponder. I have a question Marcus, are there any large indigenous forests left in Erin? I was wondering, if there aren't, is anyone trying to reforest. Just wondering, since half my bloodline came from there. Peace to all...>^..^<

Well yes we have quite a few forests... but not substantially large undisturbed ones no. Like i said in a previous post however, some green activists and myself have planted well over 230,000 in our local district! But sadly more people these days are more concerned with building roads and houses than planting new forests. It use to be said that at one stage a squirrel could go from one end of ireland to the other without touching the ground!

This may sound weird, but here goes. I have a past life memory of being in Erin, before the Romans were in Britain. It was so wild and beautiful, and I remember the Druids Groves. A very beautiful lake, that took away your heart to see it. I remember battle skirmishes with other people. I don't like that much, I can sometimes smell blood, sweat and excretment. I wonder if this is a familiar memory, since we're all part of the Universal Web. I guess that's why I feel so close to the trees. >^..^<

Theres a very large old oak tree in the backyard, I've asked it countless times for branches and have recieved what I've needed. ^-^ I burned some sage for the tree and gave it one of my special konk shells that I got from the beach.
Theres also a few dogwoods in the backyard and we used to have two nice trees in the front yard but one of them died from termites and we didn't know that until the bug guy told us. D: I was so sad to see it cut down but little twigs are poking through it and it seems the tree wants to grow again. ^-^
As for the question I think this quote is best ^-^ "Ask and ye shall recive" I don't know who said it but it IS true to an extent. =)
