hi everyone, its been awhile since i`ve posted here, but I wanted everyones opinion of something. lastnight i was flipping through some of my books, random older texts and some that are pretty new(published within the last 10 years or so) and I noticed something... whenI go back through my older books over and over again wicca is called a mystery tradition but in these newer ones you rarely see this. now my question is, do you believe that this is because wicca has changed into a watered-down version of its former self or do you think its just those authors who publish quick books for a demanding market?
personally my opinion is that its both. people will buy the books if they are available so some authors crank out multiple books a year, with the same information of course, and typically i see these as "read this book and be wiccan now!" kind of texts. while on the other hand i dont see the same depth to wicca as when i started years ago. i dont see people talk about the Great Rite anymore, I dont see so many people talking about Drawing Down the Moon/Sun as I used to, I dont see wicca called a mystery tradition anymore, I just see goddess worshipping kids now. granted ive been away from any group contact for quite awhile now but this is what i see.

This reminds me of something I read in Cunninghams' "Living Wicca"... "Wiccan mysteries may be discovered during meditation in ritual settings. They may be perceived while taking a walk, appear in our minds during sleep, even come in answer to fervent prayers to the Goddess and God. Such arcane secrets are usually only revealed to those who are truly involved in Wicca, for who else would have need of them?"
You can learn aboout Wicca from a book, or any Pagan practice for that matter, but I don't think the mysteries are revealed unless you truly live the path. Putting on a baseball glove doesn't make me a major league all-star pitcher... I think a lot of people try it on but don't realize it takes work and commitment.

RR I think that is probably most of the reason.. books and fads. I also think part of it maybe because we are coming out into the open and not having to hide anymore. So its becoming more accepted and more of a everyday thing.
