Heya Guys i didnt know where to put this, so this will do. Ive recently set up a new altar and ive read in books that its meant to have certain things in certain places. Ive got a picture: i64.photobucket.com/albums/h190/Fairy_Dust01/26-09-06_2207.jpgtell me what you think. It would be nice iff we could all share pics. But if its too personal for some people thats fine. xxx Blessed Be

Nice pic! My own 'hearth' (a tribute to my Highland ancestors) has a statue of Danu to the right of my lone candle and a statue of the Greenman to the left. In front of the candle is my own piece of personal art, of me within the Tree of Life. To the right of Danu is an 'ancestor box' with pics of all my departed relatives (the ones I have). I take out a specific pic on birth days or death days, to honor that person. By that is a dish of cornmeal, to honor both the ancestors of my family and of the land where I live. In front of my artwork are small dishes of water and salt and an incense burner (my daily offerings), a found crow's feather and an acorn from my oak friends in the backyard. My turtle shell rattles and my ogham bag are also on the hearth. I have to take a pic and upload it but I thought I'd describe it for you. As for what goes on the altar/hearth, I think that is very personal. Books can make recommendations but in the end it is what speaks to you that matters. 'They must face East' or 'They must have a white cloth' or 'you must burn x-color candle' is no good if it doesn't touch your heart. This is my current daily blessing that I use... Oh blessed Spirits of light and magic, Spirits of my spirit, I welcome you to this place as I light my need-fire once more. Bring to me this day the divine power of Your light. Sacred spirit-fire, be welcome in Your house. Beannachta! The Fire, the Well, the Sacred Tree Flow and flame and grow in me. I span between the Earth and Sky Rooted deep and crowned high. I make these offerings in the name of the Ancestors, Here now and gone and yet to be, both of my blood and of this land, remembering the Mothers who bore me, the Fathers who quickened me and the Spirits who walk this land still, I welcome You all home once more. May You always feel welcome here and in my heart. I make these offerings in the name of the Spirits of Nature, rooted and winged, footed and fey, flowing and misty, seen and unseen, heard and unheard. May You always feel welcome here me and in my heart. I make these offerings in the name of the Deities, Those who inspire and enthrall, Those who dwell within and without Those I’ve come to know and those who I have yet to meet I ask that You grant me those blessings of which I am in need, even as I thank You for the blessings I have received. May You always feel welcome here and in my heart. I offer this gift of salt, that Your powers preserve and defend me, This gift of water, that Your powers cleanse and sustain me, This gift of incense, that Your power lend my life joy and delight and This gift of cornmeal, that I return to You the bounty of my life. Daily Reading I ask that You bestow upon me and those who dwell in this house the love of the Spirits, the wisdom of the Spirits and the power of the Spirits, to strengthen and sustain us. Each shade and light, each day and night, grant us Your spirit. Grant us Your blessings. And, grant us Your fire in the head. After my meditation, I snuff the candle and say.... Sweet Brigid, as I smoor this fire, keep it burning ever bright in my heart and in my soul and in my head forever.

That is true, I always just put what feels right on it, so I thought I was like doing it wrong or something. That Daily Blessing is beautiful wren and the anscestor box is a great idea. As for the daily dedications, I normally just say the first things that come into my head- about the God and Goddess that is. I thank them and ask them to protect me and the world etc... xxxx

here's a few views of my altar. Some things are traditional, some are not, but that's why I love my path, I take what I like from each trad and use it to work for me. btw, I just love how the light bounced off of the poster.

I love the stones on the corners and the blue is very soothing! Beautiful place for working...

the stones were a gift from a friend, I've tried to put the colors that correspond with the elements in the corresponding corners and in the center (where I put the "spirit" rocks of purple and smoke), and of course I didn't have enough red. I then found the coral necklace that I used.
thanks for the compliments, it seems to work well and is a restful place for me. I have a rust and red room, so the blue is a little out of place, but I had to do what the God/dess told me!

Wow, seriously. That is really pretty...How do you keep your place clean enough to have it look that way? Thats one thing I have the most trouble with...Keeping it clean. I am a messy marvin.
