I was reading through the board and saw a few of the post about finding more about certain tribes and going back to their roots. I am new to this board but I know what it is like to try and try to find out more about my own ancestral roots. Both sides of my family have Native roots. My mothers is Shawnee part of the Ohio band and my biological father is Cherokee that part of the Oklahoma band. Ever since I was little I knew where I came from and little bits and pieces of what was left but not a lot. Most of the elders in my family choose to remain silent or simply don't know much. When I was a teenager I set out to learn more and always came up with more bits and pieces. Before I married my first husband I was making some progress of just learning more about native belief and culture but my road block was that I was not of the tribe that was in my area of Illinois. While in Germany I was drawn to Wicca and started to practice and study it but I yearned for the Native Side of me. I even lived in Oklahoma but my circumstances at the time I lived their did not allow me to search and possibly learn. The knowledge is out there the process is hard and long but through time and the meeting of others will help put the pieces together. Don't give up your search. I know I haven't but it's just been slowed down a bit. I just want to give you my support because I've been there and I'm still there. fireraven

I know there are several here including myself who would be more than happy to help you research your Native pasts. If you would like to start some threads on these subjects, I promise I will keep a closer eye on this board.

That's ok. I get busy a lot due to work and then in the fall I start back to school plus there is a competition coming up in Sept so I have music to cut and programs to plan. It's a long and rewarding process. Anyway I know my own research on my roots has come to a halt because I now live in Texas and I don't know quit where to look. Honestly it's been on halt since I lived in Oklahoma since I was sort of nicely ignored after asking a couple of questions on the one side and then on the other I needed to move to Ohio to really learn more. I think the major thing is that I am so open to learn anything and I don't have any straight forward questions. I love to learn and I just want to grow and keep my roots a live as best as I can. But the big block is that I don't live close to anyone that could teach me things from my own tribes. Or at least that is what I always get when I do finally get the courage to ask a question. Thanks for your support and I will try to start some threads but I don't get much time. fireraven I'll be watching for them.
