For better or for worse, Sun Sign comparisons only speak to how easily two people get along with each other without driving one another nuts. So we're going to journey just beyond Sun Sign comparisons in order to talk about astrological romantic attraction and possible soul mate connections.
The Moon, The Sun, and The Ascendant
Generally speaking… the three most important points to pay close attention to in any astrological chart reading are:
* The Moon
* The Sun
* The Ascendant (or Rising Sign)
This overriding importance of the Moon, the Sun, and the Ascendant holds true when interpreting birth charts - and it holds equally true when performing “synastry” comparisons between the birth charts of two people.
Synastry is the comparison of two birth charts for purposes of determining astrological compatibility. Relax… what I'm about to discuss is something which virtually anyone can do.
In this article, we only have time to touch on two of the most important cross combinations: the Sun/Ascendant and Sun/Moon.
Sun/Ascendant Cross Combination
If my Ascendant is located in the same Zodiac Sign (Sign conjunct) as your Sun, then that can spell out a very strong potential for mutual romantic attraction. My Ascendant Sign (my outer behaviors) attract and draw in your Sun Sign (your heart and creative energy).
Example: My Ascendant is located in the Sign of Gemini. When I meet someone whose Sun is located in the Sign of Gemini - then that's often a strong potential for mutual attraction!
I only wish I had a nickel for every synastry comparison I've done for married couples where one person's Ascendant was in the same Sign as the other person's Sun!
Taking this concept a little further - Sign conjunctions with the Ascendant also work quite well when comparing one person's Ascendant with the other person's Moon, Venus, and Mars.
Sun/Moon Cross Combination
The other cross combination to pay special attention to is between the Sun Sign in a man's chart and the Moon Sign in a woman's chart. In this cross combination - the creative energy (Sun) of the man blends with the emotional needs (Moon) of the woman.
Having the man's Sun in the same Sign as the woman's Moon has been sometimes viewed by astrologers as a potential "soul mate" connection. An example of this is when his Sun is in Aries and her Moon is also in Aries. While I don't carry it quite so far as calling it a "soul mate" connection, it can nevertheless be a strong, powerful connection between the two people involved.
This Sun/Moon comparison also works well when the Sun in the woman's chart is in the same Sign as the Moon in the man's chart - however, in this case, the woman generally tends to be a wee bit bossy and domineering.
