I've been interested in learning about tarot.. but first, I'd like to find a deck. My fashion has always been geared towards the generic and understated.. and I would probably get the Rider Waite deck.. but I just find it ugly and too simple. I was hoping someone who knows a lot of tarot decks might help me find something that would suit me.
This is what I'm looking for.
Something without gimmicks. No Vampire Tarot or Anime Tarot for me. Just the regular Tarot.
Something simple and plain.. but still detailed and beautiful. That doesn't mean every card has to be OMFG LOOK AT THAT! I appreciate subtle beauty.
And finally, I've always enjoyed watercolors. Though it's not a must, I think I'd like a tarot deck with cards done in watercolors.
I realize this may be a little bit off topic, but I appreciate any help.

Hmmm.... someone had a list of the different Tarot decks and bloggied about it a few months back.. either Sab or Kyz... I think that you might get a suggestion or two from group members, but, honestly, Mike, until you find a deck that calls to you personally, it's not going to do you any good... Ask Kyz and sab if they're the ones that made the listy, browse the Internet and look at the styles and the art work, see if anything you like pops up.... wander into a few stores that carry them, and, see if anything speaks to you... The cover or the art is less meaningful than the actual deck that elicits a response from you...

The Rider-Waite tarot is very easy and simple. It was my very first deck. No gimmicks.

To me any mode of divination is valid (even Vampire Tarot or Anime Tarot) as long as it is internally consistent in it's focus and describes truth in being. I would advise that you choose a tarot that is deeply rooted in your own personal beliefs and philosophical structure. Put out an online study, search for a deck that speaks to you on every level. I wouldn't go to a store as the selection will be limited. Search online and that way if you need to you could have someone order the deck you know is right for you and the path you seek.

tarot.llewellyn.com/go to the tarot and divination section and you can browse thru dozens of decks. My personal favorite is the Mary Hansen-Robert's deck that takes the rider/waite's imagry and updates it. Makes it prettier in my eyes. I love it www.amazon.com/Hanson-Roberts-Tarot-Deck/dp/0880790792www.alltarot.com/AT-Decks.htmlthis will bring you to another site with some more decks find a deck that calls to you and you will do fine. Don't forget to check out Llewellyns' Tarot readers to get some cool spreads and some interesting helpful information.
