since that season is coming around again, I was wondering if anyone had any tips for allergies I've never really had a problem with sinuses or allergies myself...Though one way to open the sinuses is by eating very hot food or a drink as I've sometimes recommended...What sort of allergies do have a problem with?

oh, I don't personally have any problems with allergies. A couple of my friends were complaining last night, and my brother has a lot of trouble with them this time of year. I think my friends were saying something about pollen, but my brother has trouble with animals.

i'm mildly allergic to all kinds of things, mostly pet dander and dust mites. i've found that the more i'm around 1 pet the less the dander of that particular animal gets to me. for example, when i first got my most recent k-9 companion Starr (f, lab mix), i would break out in hives where ever she touched me. she's now 1 1/2 yrs old and her dander and hair no longer bothers me. i understand that those w/ severe allergies could die by that technique so be careful. as with the dust mites, sunlight kills them (yaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy). dust mites feed off of dust and dead skin cells. airing bedding in sun light (not through glass, as it filters out some of the uv rays) and vacumming the mattresses is better than sleeping on plastic. i grew out of my most severe alergies. i found, however, that when my face and eyes would swell, a cold wash rag would either bring it down or give a little releif. drinking plenty of ice water or eating something cold would also help me breathe better and sometimes calm me down. i hope this helps estrie

Pel,
I hope that your allergies are not to bad. My son..he is 5...has taken shots for 3 years now because his allergies are so bad. Even though he takes his shot every week he still has certain times of the year...like now....that are really hard on him (he also has asthma). The one thing that I have found that really helps him is honey. If you can find someone who harvest's fresh honey from the comb, take a teaspoon a day. It builds your immune system up to fight off your allergies because it is made from the stuff you are allergic to. I have no idea how that works...but it does. You may have to search to find the honey, it should be harvested from a comb that is within 30 miles or so of your home. This ensures that the honey is made from the same things that cause your allergies. Hope this helps.

ditto to what amethyst said about the honey that is supposed to really help alot. I don't really have many allergies except cottonwood and mesquite trees. I do have asthma and since I gave in and started taking the meds for it my allergies are zilch. My son however is another story lol. He is allergic to alot of crap outside and has some bad food allergies.. wheat, eggs, milk, yeast and corn. He gets shots once a week too plus a special diet.

I have had a big problem with sinus, contstant running nose, dripping down my throat, what a pain. I had a cataract surgery done and had to use antibiotic eye drops for 2 weeks along with 2 other drops, one a steroid, the other just a eye moisturizer. Well, during those weeks I found that my sinus stopped draining. The drops went into my sinus and seemed to stop the problem. Now when I feel extra stuffed up, I just put extra eye drops into my eyes and it moisturizes my sinus areas and I feel better. It also helps with the dry eyes. It just makes sense. Keep your eyes moisturized and some of the irritation in your sinus will clear up.

Becareful with the use of honey I found out the hard way . If you use fresh honey with a comb you can have a reaction . I broke out in hives that lasted almost 2 weeks . Hot cloth over the face works ok and lots of showers is all I have found other than alergy medicines.

i havr really bad sinus and allergy trouble. especially this time of the year. i try to use natural remedies when i can. pepper tea is good to open the sinuses with and lemon and honey tea is soothing on a scratchy throat.
