you're missing out by not watching the shows. the shows are a lot better than the movies and give you the background behind the movies.
you should check out the shows. i would recommend star trek: the next generation as a starter if you don't want to watch the original. plus, TNG is still on reruns on a few channels.

Well, I can't really say that I personally follw either to closely, but I think both are good...The old Star trek gets on my nerves a bit with all the funky 60's sound effects, but I still find myself watching it when nothing else is on...I think Stormy is a fellow trekie though, maybe she'll weigh in soon.

I tried to watch the shows but they somehow couldn't cut it for me. I had friends that were HUGE trekkies but I tried to watch the original & then I tried TNG. Although, I must admit TNG was MUCH better. Then all the other funky offshoots came from TNG & really made me lose interest fully in the TV shows. They were horrible but they never caught my fancy. The movies, however, always had an very interesting plot. It was just the ending that bothered me. No, not the happy ending, the ending where they lost the Enterprise. How many ships did they go through?!?!?!? lol

i was raised watching next generation and deep space nine. later on i got hooked on voyager and even followed enterprise for a short time. i've seen several episodes of the original series and a couple of the movies. basically i've seen star trek in all it's incarmations.
with the excceptions of the original, the movies and enterprise i've loved them all. the others i liked, but didn't love.
i spent my month long break over december and january watching star trek on dvd. i watched several seasons of TNG and DS9 and one or two seasons of enterprise. they didn't have voyager, which made me sad.
