Well, about 15 years ago, I decided that I would create a world. One that is much like our own. I was interested in having it published by (then TSR) Wizard's of the Coast. It was for a Dungeon's & Dragon's gaming world. One which I had decidedly to incorporate pantheons of all & creating my own at the same time......
The Gods were (unlike other D&D worlds) a bit more involved in the world & wanted to help mortals acheive what they strived.
My gods were loosely based off Greek mythology with a splash of Norse & some of what I felt would work. The one thing I wanted the most was balance. You can't have good without evil type of thing. positive/negative Yin/yang etc....
I have a map of the world done & several areas finished. I even had a few adventures for people to play. Sadly, I never fully wrote out all my ideas. I am starting to try to get back to working on it & the story that might ensue while doing so.
Anyway, I figured to put this here to see if anyone was interested in hearing more etc....

i think its great, tho it must take up some time to put everything together and make it work! i once had an interest in maps, i loved looking at them, whether they were real or made up in the cover of my books...and then i love the worlds created in books seems like a fantastic project!

Thanks....one thing I based the continents off was the origination of several continents from one. They break apart over time & form new continents. You can kind of see how they once fit as a jig-saw puzzle. (See-west coast Africa & east coast South America)

This world in not too much unlike ours. Each continent will be loosely based off what we have here. This is not to say that a character in this world would be out of character to worship a God/Goddess that isn't sort of linked to their continent.
So, I have the Celtic area that I was trying to find GOOD mythology to use. Then, there is the English. The Knights of Laceron. They are the paladins (holy crusaders) & protectors of the innocent. They are the knights who also control too much land improperly. Obviously, the continent is named Laceron. I'm still trying to come up with names for the northeast/northwest corner of the continent. The northeast is Irish Celtic & west is Scottish Celtic (I may combine the both & the northwest may be something else entirely)
I have the Norse mythos in here....not too far away. I have, of course, the Evil land of Aram. Originally, I thought Aram to be like the Middle East but as I felt more that it should be evil, I decided to change to the land of Venura (namemay be changed) as the focal point of that mythos. Tarth (the first continent I drew) has a potpourri of all. It is diverse in all. North, is Native American continent. It is inhabited by some 'other' folk. Some large cities but this land is fertile & lends itself to a sort of beastlands (the most inhabitants are animals)
There is a large island for elves....There is the Asian mythos (I kind of had to lump this one together because the mythos was so large for me to handle).
Magic is large here. It is a magical world after all! I will post more of this later...Probably my Gods/Goddesses....

A special thanks goes to Wren for getting the map up for me....This map was using a mouse on a D&D map maker. While it is a very old program, it still has some cool features. The problem that I had was re-drawing what I drew in this & making it look good. So, it's a little weird but still captures what I was going for. BTW, Laceron is the Northwest continent. Tarth is almost dead center.....

Thank you...Ok, well. I will leave the Gods/Godesses out for now. I need to actually transfer them from paper to computer! I did try to do one thing with them & that was have their name mean something similar to what their pantheon is. Oddly, my first one, the ruler was named Seraphius. The name came to me very quickly & I liked it. Seraphius is the first & ruler of the Gods/Goddesses. Oddly, one day I came across the word seraph. I looked it up & it's meaning is: A seraph (Hebrew ùÒøó, plural ùÒøôéí Seraphim) is one of a class of celestial beings mentioned once in the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh or Old Testament), in Isaiah. Later Jewish imagery perceived them as having human form, and in that way they passed into the ranks of Christian angels. In the Christian Hierarchy of angels, seraphim represent the highest rank of angels...Although this is not the meaning I came across prior to this. lol. When I first looked it up, it was something like the highest angel or ruling angel.

Also, the Gods avatars appear on the world in various forms to aid the mortal world. I say that because there are some immortals. Elves are morta/immortal. They do not die of old age. Rather, they simply travel to Aravanaith (this may change).....However, they can be killed.

So, here are some of the Gods/Goddesses I dreamt up (lol): Panacea Goddess of Love, Beauty, & Peace. Her priests/priestesses duties include promoting the above as well as giving guidance as well as marriages. She appears as a beautiful young maiden with golden hair & wearing a flowing white dress (the word is for medicinal purposes, I believe but liked her for this). Her priestly symbol is a dove. She is the daughter of Seraphius & Tinea.
Seraphius-Chief of Gods. (was the God of Justice). His priestly ways are balance in all situations including disputes as well as wars. He appears as a male w/a long white, flowing beard & hair. His symbol is a sceptre with a sapphire as the jeweled crown. His wife is Tinea.
Tinea-Goddess of Birth, Fertility, & Marriage: Her priestly vestments inlcude-Guidance, marriage, & giving birth. (It is not necessary to have marriage & a child) Her symbol is a circle with a pine cone in a cradle (*subject to change on the symbol)
Shahalla-Goddess of Healing: Her priestly vestments include-Healing & curing the sick/injured, teaching healing. (It is important to note that Shahalla is the most favored amongst the Gods & her priests receive the same respect in the Prime Material Plane. Her symbol is a healing plant (this one, I never decided on as putting an aloe plant on a symbol looks weird etc...)
So, this is 4 of my 36 Gods/Goddesses (including the 5 'Slain Ones) In basics, the Slain Ones were well...slain by a another diety: Laethrax (God of Death & Disease)-Laethrax's strongest urge is to rule Tarith alone. He had slain 5 Gods before losing a battle with Ericius (*subject to change) God of Nature. (Note: Ericius' priests are druids) & his twin sister Sylvanna-Goddess of the Forest. Through multiple shapechanging in the battle, Laethrax lost sight of Ericius who had called upon Seraphius' warhammer (Toirneach) & smote Leathrax back to the Plane of Pluton in Hades. Laethrax seeks to return to slay the Gods again....
Ok, this is a little glimpse. Some of it is rough around the corners.....I am working on trying to make this a world unto itself. With many stories of heroes & tales from afar!

Ok, so here's a question for the ones who want to hear more. Would you like to hear about the mythos, the heroes, or the layout of the land?

Achrae looked down to the where the massive army marching toward his lair. "Fools," he said as he picks some gems to eat. Annoyed these intruders had interrupted his afternoon nap in the sun, he waited until he could be able to entrap the entire army in the valley below. The ledge he was perched, high atop his mountain, had a great view of any unwanted company. It also was is his sunbathing place where he could warm his cooling red scales. The drums thundered through the valley & up to Achrae. It was the drums that had alerted him initially. He's been waiting silently for a few hours since being alerted. His grin grows with every new line coming from around the far bend in the valley. The army stops. Confused, Achrae ponders what might be happening. He then realizes "They are making camp for the night!" Gleefully, he watches the little ants move around as the sun sets. "Tasty morsels....mmmmaybe you no, YOU!" He says with a chuckle. Darkness creeps over the valley & up the mountainside. Achrae gets more excited with every rock that is enveloped. Suddenly, he hears a faint voice. Words he recognizes, magic? They have a wizard? No, a bard. "Hmmm. Leave it to humans to take a bard to make them feel better rather than using a wizard. Maybe I'll make the bard my pet. I need a good song or ten sung about me!" Night creeps over the land. The time is just right. Achrae leaps into the air, over the mountains. His plan is to take them from behind. He swoops over the last peak & dives down. He readies his breath for the first wave of his attack....
Sorry, I gotta go to work!
