Why did you pick your handle?
When I started to try to find my magical name, I started with Lilac Lady, which I then utilized for my photography business name. I started my belief in Reincarnation/one continuous soul by reading Katherine Kerr’s Daggerspell/Devery series. (still reading as a matter of fact, 15 years later!) Nevyn is a character in the series whose name means “No One”. I wanted to separate my business life from my personal life. I wanted to be No One for a while, so I became Nevyn.
What path do you follow?
My own. I was raised a Catholic who was encouraged to read. I started reading the Earth Children series by Jean Auel when I was 11. Her stories are based in Neolithic Europe around people who worship the Mother and Gaea. They are based on both the Cro-Magnum and the Homo Sapiens living in the time of the Venus of Wilendorf. They opened my eyes to the Mother and I began to question the Patriarchal thinking of the CHURCH. I have been trying for years to find her (mother) in other religions. I’ve studied Gnosticism, and I’m not truly a Gnostic, I studied for 11 months on the Wiccan Way, but have decided that I am not completely Wiccan either. I have an affinity for Egyptian Mythology as well and have taken two Egyptian goddesses as part of my Goddess pantheon as well as Roman/Greek along with Mary. Jesus is part of my God pantheon.
How long have you been following it?
Consciously? For about 3 years.
Does it affect you everyday life?
I don’t carry the guilt that I did when I was trying to be a Good Catholic and not believe that there had to be a female side to God and why were these men telling me it was to a sin to believe that way?
How do you integrate your beliefs in your daily life?
I take responsibility for my own Divinity and I am trying to study and learn as much as possible every day so that this might be my LAST time down here in this hell hole!
Has Pagan Mystics effected your life?
I have found people who have the same feelings about Jesus and Paganism and who can teach me in the areas that I am lacking (divination, reincarnation, Druidism) education in. I've found out that I’m not so different after all!
What is your current occupation?
Glorified babysitter for 2 more weeks, then back to p/t caffeine pusher and freelance photographer.
What would be your dream job?
To be able to support myself with my photography
What did you want to be growing up?
Once upon a time, a nun! Then and architect, then an interpreter for the Air Force, then a teacher to the deaf….I’ve not stopped growing up, so let’s add self-supporting photographer to the list.
Dreams for the future:
I dream that I will not have to scrimp and save to feed my children and not have to live paycheck to paycheck. I dream of owning my own house and not being in debt.
What was your favorite childhood game?
I usually read. I was very good at escaping into a different world and leaving my own behind.
If you could have any animal (mythical or otherwise) as a pet, what would it be?
A bird with a vocabulary that rivals mine own.
What are 5 words that your partner/friends would use to describe you? 5 words you would use?
Partner ~ messy, forgetful, librarian, caring and sexy (although I am sure I don’t know why!)
Me ~ Cancer, ADD (I know that that means 3 words, but let’s cut me some slack!), Mommy, stressed, broke
What do you do to relax?
Smoke pot. (GASP! Who would’ve thunk?) and continue reading whatever I can get my hands on to continue my studies (buckland, farrars, cowell, sylvia brown, john edward, astrology guides, .... I am a frequent flyer at my library!)
What is your favorite date/ night out?
Samhain (tee hee….)
Anyway, dinner and a theater/stand up comic.
How do you express yourself?
In writing or with pictures. I don’t express myself verbally very well (my moon is in Capricorn and Venus is in Virgo!)
What is it, specifically that you have the hardest time with as far as your faith is concerned?
Getting my mother to accept that she doesn't have a say in it anymore and reconciling the Monotheistic childhood with my personal education in what Spirit is.
What is your take on the "Gods?" (polytheist, monotheist, etc.) Why?
I believe in Spirit, Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. I follow the Wheel of the Year.
I pray to God and to Goddess. I honor Him in Jesus, Osiris, Horus, Hermes, Pan, Dionysus, Buddha, Mohammad and the Green Man and I honor Her in Mary, Adzna, Isis, Demeter, Ceres, Gaea, Persephone, Athena, Aphrodite, Venus, Cerridwen, Maiden, Mother and Crone, Dianna, Bast and the Lady Moon.
I believe that there is one Higher Power and we all have our own different ways of honoring them. Nobody's God has a bigger dick than the other!
I attended Ala-Teen for many years, and I have taken up the habit of taking what I want and leaving the rest in my approach to my life.
