I would think the key there is that you are in control of your faculties to know you are not really changing even though it feels like you are changing. I would say it could be compared to when a sane person wonders if they are crazy, if you wonder if you are you probably aren't. The crazy person will always deny they are. I have mostly always considered the shape-shifting aspect of Feth Fiada a way of the spirit. Given some of what I am reading however I can see I may have been mistaken in the assumption. I've read topics on the reptilian parts of the mind as well as the primal. I'm not sure why I've never thought of it before. Perhaps it is a seeking of mind, body, and soul, in unison to the evolution of mankind. I have at times wondered just how crazy, or confused such people are however. On the physical, yes. I would agree they have things confused, but in many ways are they not inadvertently practicing the ways of their ancient Shamanic ancestors?

I should like to posit, Senbecc, that it is most likely encoded into the Dna, on a shall we say, Etheric basis. And, to a degree, there is a reverse evolutionary, "time travel", during those periods of shapeshifted consciousness; As well,an interfacing, with a morphogenic/morphogenetic grid, encompassing all past, present, and possibly future, life forms; In the Olde tradition, it was by uniting the Higher Brain functions, with the Animal Soul, which allowed one interdimensional travel...Our Tradition, illustrated this, on the walls, in Egypt...Animals mostly Dream, and it is contact with that realm, within the Human Self, which allows one the ability, to enter "The Dreaming"...In the Native American, "Medicine Card" Deck, it is Lizard, which is associated with the Dreaming, if you get my drift...Lizard dreams Snake, will not eat it...

And, one more thought, along that line...That would mean lycanthropia, under shall we say, controlled states, was not a mental impairment, but a mental enhancement ?

I understand now finally.. Thanks for explaining.
My oppinion is simple. I believe what I want to believe. I don't care if mental health workers call me insane.. If I wanna believe that unicorns exist then I will. Same goes for lycanthropes and everything else.. I mean, our lives are short we should make the most of it and not worry about what everyone else thinks..

And from that perspective, Mi 'Lladia Wolf, well said...One of the problems, with western "civilization", ( often, not so civil ), and academia in general, is they "entrain" people, into certain thought patterns, that take the fun, out of life...not saying, lycanthrope/otherkin is all about fun...Just if someone chooses that path, bless them, and screw anybody, who finds fault with that...I am glad, you believe, as you choose to believe...You, and others like you, keep true magic, in the world...

John I would have to disagree here there is a huge problem with allowing a person to live in a fantasy world. The problems begin because can no longer differentiate between truth and fiction. What would the result be if someone gets hurt in this process. The person that was lost in a fantasy world should not be criminally charged because they have a mental condition but they also were told it was ok to be "different". It is ok to be different it is not ok to have dellusions of things that taint your perception. (I just really like this smiley

My ancestry traces it roots to the very founding of Rome you dont get more western then that. I like to think they kept true magic alive and they didnt let people with "tendencies" wonder around the street. They protected the people and the victim. Magic is not about allowing whatever feels good to be true. It is about discipline and overcoming problems to reach an altered state of being. Paganism is not about any of those things though. It is easy to keep true magic alive I do it everday I honor my gods and work a spell.

There's dilusional and non dilusional people out there we can't really tell the difference. If someones gonna get hurt then so be it.. Its the way of life.
Who cares if people can't tell the difference between reality and fiction.. As long as they are happy I say leave them to their fantasies..
Nobody can stop people getting hurt in the world, they can try but they will always fail..
Does that make sense to anyone??

Who cares if people can't tell the difference between reality and fiction.. As long as they are happy I say leave them to their fantasies.. Nobody can stop people getting hurt in the world, they can try but they will always fail.. Does that make sense to anyone?? When did it become ok for someone to live in fantasy though. I am all for people being happy in "reality". As I have stated there is research that would show that people that throw themselves into this fantasy life have been hurt as children to the point of needing to retreat into fantasy. This is not something they do that makes them happy they do it to survive. It would be so much better for all those people to seek the help to function in society as a rational individual. Now my other main issue with this is that people that wrap themselves up in this get so caught up in the fact that they have the soul of say a Raccoon that they forget they are not really that animal. I am the proud carrier of a fetch that is at my side all the time it has taken the form of a Raccoon but that does not mean I myself am part Raccoon. I am also the owner of a actual fox does that make me in anyway shape or form part fox though? It is important to be able to tell the difference between the things that we think make us special and the things that make us special in actuality. As for you saying "who cares if someone gets hurt?". I do I care deeply I was attacked by a man that was homeless and mentally affected, I would have cared for him to get treatment instead of being allowed to wonder the street. I imagine you would care if a man who thought that he had the soul of the Panther, broke into your house and killed either you a child or your partner. Simple because he assumed that he had a predatory soul. The danger in assuming irrational people can be happy is in assuming they can be happy in the way rational people are. Some people murder because it makes them happy does that make it ok?

I love that we are discussing this. I have always loved talking about the merger of philosophy and even psychology and magical workings.
Maybe it is because of my love for all these that I have had to find a bridge to connect them together. I see them working in conjunction with each other

Nobody can stop people getting hurt in the world, they can try but they will always fail.. Does that make sense to anyone?? It makes perfect sense as long as they aren't hurting anyone, including themselves. Unfortunately, living in a fantasy world is rarely good for the person doing it, or those around them. Lots of these "otherkin" have children for one thing. What responsibility do we have to them (if any)? There seems to be a number of sexual predators as well that utilize the subculture as a hunting ground. Moreover, the obvious dangers of the small minority who are extremely dangerous and blend in because of the cover the benign give them. Let me ask you this, let's say your neighbor (or a friend) is an Otherkin who views himself as a vampire. He insists you address him thus and lives his entire life in the thematic style. He is always saying crazy, scary things which you ignore largely because you feel it is harmless. Then one day you discover he has killed several people and himself. Would you bear any responsibility? I don't think this is that easy a question in this day and age.
