I have been working with pendulums and was wondering if anyone else has any tips/suggestions? There wasn't an topic area yet dealing with this, so am I the only one? (Don't think I am, as this is such an Experienced group!) Jen

"Magic of any kind should be respected and only worked with clear intent. This site does not guarantee success of any spell posted here, authorize or condone the use of any spell, and takes no responsibility for any spell posted here. The posting of spells is for information and discussion purposes only." I'm not terribly schooled in dowsing, but I've dabbled in it... there are many types of dowsing and can be used accurately for many things, IE: finding water (it's even a career) yes or no questions and more complex things when you have a chart to go by (don't buy one you can make your of your own )i don't have a pendulum i just improvise with what's around. i used my fav ring and a length of sewing thread, the thread was looped through the ring and the ends were tied together. any thing that will dangle on the end of a string is good. Ive also used a necklace i was wearing once . my mom likes to use coat hangers when she's lost something, lol. it's found my earring(s) on several occasions. I'm sure I've missed something there are other aspects to get into but i can't remember them . good luck! * heres a site you may like* diviningmind.com/dowsing-tips.html

I don't know anything about dowsing but this is how I was taught to use a pendulum. I was told that you only want it to hang from one chain, string etc. So you don't want to use like a looped necklace. You want about 12 inches of string to work with as you want to wrap the end around your index and ring fingers and use your thumb to hold it against your index finger. You want approximately 9 inches left. I was also told not to use a charged item as the pendulum.
At this point you would begin to ask what motion is "yes". Once that has been determined you would ask what motion is "no". Yes/no can also be changed to names, places etc. almost anything at all really. Once yes/no motions have been determined all that is left is to focus on your question and await your answer. I have found this to be a very good method. It's not my favorite method of divination but it does come in handy sometimes.

I've never tried this. Once, when I was pregnant, someone used a pendulum over my belly and told me I was going to have a girl. I had a boy but it was more of a party game than a true reading.
I'll have to try this!

Hi I'm new in this forum. I've dabbled in most of the divination arts and my main one is channeling and following my intuition, as I'm in constant communication with my guides. I like to take cues from everything. Signs are, though, that I need to choose a couple of them and learn to be more proficient and stick with it. One is the Tarot, which I will make a new in-depth study of to commemorate the beginning of the Celtic year at Samhain. The other is a pendulum that was a gift at the beginning of September. It's a pendulum made of a thin silver chain with a bead on one end a typical pendulum tear drop on the other made of Brazilian Jasper. It's about 9 or 10 inches altogether.
I established communication with it very quickly. I hold it in my left or female/intuitive hand. Clockwise circular motion is positive energy and counter-clockwise negative. I hold it over food before I eat it, or fruit and vegetables and other food before purchasing. I use it all the time in everyday things to get a good feel for it and a good working relationship. For yes and no questions, swinging directly forward and back is yes, and from side to side is no (blocking the path). When asking if it wanted me to respond to this thread, for example, it was a clear forward and backward swinging "yes." I love the dark blue/green color and I love the feel of it. I think it's a "he" and I don't understand his name yet. I tend to treat everything like it's alive and sentient, because I believe it is. I'll have to report back sometime later, when we've had more experiences to share. Again I have to mention I do everything in connection with my guides and he is like a guide himself. I take full responsibility for all my actions! My guides are here to assist, but it's always my choice.

Sounds like a wonderful friend you have. Please keep us posted as you continue to make use of it. I have this image in my head now of the other store customers watching you and wondering what you're up to. Should open up a new line of communication for you, too!

Thank you, Wren. I watched a temporary mentor, that I spent 5 weeks with in the summer of '96 in view of Mt. Shasta. I saw some absolutely amazing things. But he went in the local health food store, and said "I don't trust everything just because it's labeled "organic. I check it's energy." He'd pull out his pendulum and hold it over what he was interested in. If anyone really looked, he turned and gave them a friendly, open smile. If anyone asked, he gave them a simple direct answer like, "I'm checking the energy." He only gave information when asked, and kept it simple and straightforward enough to answer the question for the moment. I follow his example.
In regards to dowsing, I'm reminded of information that came from some native Americans, that my penis is also a dowsing rod and also useful for other things besides sex and urinating. Not exactly a conversation piece, perhaps, but useful information none-the-less.
As far as I'm concerned, everthing is energy and it's the natural ability of us all to read various energies in various ways. It's been heavily surpressed and discouraged in our culture, but is inherent within us anyway. Learning is sometimes more like remembering. And a playful and communicative approach is good with any divination method.

Hi, I am new, but I read thru all the correspondence regarding your query. Pendulum can be very helpful. You can even do radionics with it, like the Egyptians used to. Which is a healing technique. You can also apply Robert E. Detzler's technique to Clear Your Soul Records in accordance with his book The Freedom Path. Yes, you can check what nutrition or what minerals, vitamins, etc... you are lacking or if you are dehydrated, etc... But above all with this practice, you shall be becoming more intuitive. Yes, maybe one day will you not need the pendulum anymore, as we will not need a car to get somewhere, but in the meantime, please use it to get quicker to where you want to go instead of by foot. with blessings to you and your love ones

i've thought about trying to use a pendulum. i just haven't done it yet. i have a crystal drop on a string that i've been meaning to try out.
i've never tried dowsing, and never really thought about it. it's just not somethign that's caught my interest. besides, if i did a dowsing everytime i lost something i'd never put the forked stick down.

Hi!
I'm new here... just joined today. I use the pendulum, as well as tarot and ogham. I also have a ouija board, but I haven't used it yet.
I want to post in the Introdutions board, but I don't get a Start New Thread box. Oh well. I try to get an intro posted once I can.
