THE ELEMENT FIRE
Fire is the Element of will, passion, and change. Fire magick can bring on the new, bring on courage and passion, and destroy the old. In a sense fire contains within it all forms of magick, since magick is in itself a process of change. Fire is thought to be the universal force of expansion. It has always been used for purification, defense, and protection physically and spiritually.
Fire is the element of power, strength, determination, courage, enthusiasm, desire, force, and lust. It is the basis of all energy, creativity, and sensuality. It represents both light and heat – it is the Sun, the stars, the heat in the earth, the flame, and the fire in your heart. This element is the light of intelligence and the courage to follow it. A low fire person is usually cold, slow to act, and lacks enthusiasm for life or self. A high fire person is bold, dramatic, dynamic, and passionate in all areas of life; however, a high fire person must be careful as fire can destroy everything in its path, including the flash point.
This is the realm of sexuality and passion. Nevertheless it is not only the fire and heat of sex, this element is also the spark of divinity which shines within us and all living things. It is at once the most physical and most spiritual of the elements.
This element is the cook fire that feeds, the furnace that warms. Conversely it is the forest fire and house fire that destroy. Fire is the double edged sword that offers life or death, but never the middle.
Fire magick can be frightening. The results can manifest quickly and spectacularly. It is not the element for the faint of heart. However, it is the most primal and for this reason is much used.
Fire magick usually involves energy, authority, sex, healing, purification, evolution, and so on. Or it can be used for banishing, ridding, or destroying negative influences such as bad habit or disease.
Fire magick can be performed symbolically, literally, or both. Using the element literally usually involves burning something such as an herb or flower, incense, or something like a piece of paper on which you have written your desire. Using the Sun, such as in the cleansing of your magickal items, is also a literal way to use the element. Candles are both literal and symbolic – the flame of the wick, of course, is literal, but the choice of color and scent of the candle usually is a symbolic representation of a power. Symbolically you can use many different correspondences rather than the element itself, such as certain red gemstones/crystals, pictorial symbols, etc.
In summary the Fire Element is the desire or Will to manifest an idea, the driving life force, the principle of change and transformation. It is passion and lust; strength and power. It is action by sheer definition.

THE FIRE ELEMENTALS
Salamanders are the spiritual beings that inhabit and control the Fire Element. Without them it would be impossible to make a fire, it is through them that fire exists. There are many family branches of Fire Elementals including Jin, Genies, and Acthnici, but chiefly the Salamanders rule fire. They are the givers of passion and creativity. They are the protectors of hearth, home, and business.
Salamanders are the strongest and most powerful of all the elementals, having the ability to extend or diminish their size as needed. They and others of their kind are mischievous spirits who, like children don’t fully understand the results of their actions, which can affect the thoughts and actions of people around them. As such, strong control is required when using their aid in magickal workings.
When used in magick, Salamanders can have a profound effect on human nature. Linked through the heat with which we maintain our body temperatures, they can influence our emotions and general temperament. By nature of their alignment with Fire, Salamanders are explosive and quick in motion. They are also unstable! They are usually called upon to help in matters involving the discipline and exercise of the Will and Power. However, due to their unstable natures calling upon Salamanders carries the risk of fire-based anomalies in the general area in which they are summoned.
Salamanders are thought to move about most freely at night and are most likely to appear as small balls of light or fire drifting in the air or across water and have been called Ball Lightening, Phantom Lights, and Swamp Lights. Sailors often saw Acthnici in the masts of their ships, a phenomenon called St. Elmo’s Fire. They are also perceived as small lizard-like flames in fires.
In the human body and the bodies of other creatures, Salamanders (or their energy) tend to work with the liver, the blood stream, the emotions, and they help to regulate body heat.
