July 31 st, Lughnasadh, the first Harvest festival. Named for the warrior sun god Lugh, it is the time for signing contracts, and oaths. It is also 9 months until Beltaine, that meant in the past only couple who produced a child could marry. So now is the time for hand-fasting, getting that little pagan on it's way! LOL You can just go out and harvest some crops instead! We're on the count down until Mabon! Peace and Prosperity to all. >^-.-^<

Peace and Prosperity to all. >^-.-^< May the sun find you blessed with beautiful gardens, good harvests, and some healthy Celtic babies! We've had a good year IMO. We have been blessed with tales of births, gardens, and all manner of new life to tell of on these boards. In this way our boards, our community remains a happy place where we can share and grow. Lughnasadh (Ireland), or Brón Trogain (Also Irish and refers to the pains of child birth I believe), Lunasdál (Scotland), Laa Luanys (isle of man) and Gwl Awst (Wales) was a time dedicated to Tailtiu, a queen of the Fir Bolg and Lugh's mother. She died clearing the land for farming, though not before the men of Eriu came to her death bed where Tailtiu asked them to hold funeral games in her honor. This they did, which some actually believe to be the fore runner of the Olympic games. Tailtiu, actually translates to "Great one of the earth" she is a personifcation of the land which was and is so very cherished by it's people. May Lugh and his mother bless you on these festival days. Lughnasadh is a time of feasting, drinking, physical games and all around fun.

What does everyone here do to recognize or celebrate this day?
My daughter and I wrote our own ritual. We made our own incense, infused with Lugh's strength and skills. She baked mini harvest muffins from scratch, containing corn, oatmeal, wheat flour, raisins, sunflower seeds and apple juice. We set out corn meal for the land ancestors and our 'ancestor box' for our familial ancestors. We put out our statues to represent the deities and roses from our garden for the nature spirits. We burned found twigs from our oak trees, our incense and two candles, yellow and green for bounty and harvest. We spoke of our blessings this year, while sharing a fresh zucchini and apple and taking bites from her muffins, offering the remining ones to the nature spirits and the creatures of the Earth, and thanked the Spirits and Deities for the harvest as we sprinkled corn meal around us. We shared a cup of apple cider, after pouring a bit on the ground for Danu and Tailtiu and The Dagda. We offered our new Poet's Stick for Their blessing. I offered an original poem and she did the same. We asked for Their inspiration in our courses at the Bardic College and blessings on our seeds for next year's garden and on our tools and hands in Their service, including the apple and zucchini seeds which we will also plant.
What a unique experience it is to have your child write out what you will share at such a time. Instead of sitting back and having someone else perform the ritual or rite, it is a part of her and she a part of it.

Ive been trying to come up with a Magickal name to symbolize the start of my spiritual path, and have been unsuccessful until this name just leapt at me. Its very me, and I appreciate your kind words, friend.

They do them at ADF and also (I think) at NOD. I've never actually participated but I would think that you would send out a ritual plan ahead of time?
