Higher Self - the Eternal, Conscious, Intelligent Being
Witches, true practicing pagans, use the term "Higher Self" to refer to the true self or one's "soul". The higher self is an integral and intimate personal aspect of ourselves that remains aware of, and actively interacts with, our substantial being and navigates our existence through life. Your Higher Self is the most perfect form of "you" that exists in the universe and its guidance manifests itself in your life in many subtle ways: as a still small voice, as vivid images and pictures, as flashes of insight and feelings, and as the experience intuition and the feeling of knowing-ness. The feeling of deja vu is nothing more than a brief, glimmering message from your higher self.
Your Higher Self
The Higher Self is that part of you that lives beyond the physical realms. It is eternal, infinite, and transcends your everyday consciousness. It is unique to itself, but a mere drop in the ocean of the universe—seperate, but yet part of the greater whole.
The higher self is the single most component of you. It is the energy and the driving force behind the physical, conscious, and subconscious. It transcends the physical, conscious, and subconcious and extends beyoond your awareness. It exists beyond normal, rational thought and manifests itself by its existence.
Your higher self exists outside the confines of space and time, independent of anything external to itself. It is is not subject to pleasure and pain and is unimaginable and unthinkable because it is above thought.
Your Self - One of Many
Your self is only one of an uncountable many. Higher Selves or life forces as they might be called, are everywhere, co-existing in the universe on an unknown number and type of planes. Every living thing is driven by a higher self, but their existence reaches far beyond what we know.
Witchcraft and the Higher Self
True witches understand the concept of the higher self and are free to phrase their belief in whatever context they choose. As the facts surrounding a higher self's existence are a mystery, it is personal comfort that becomes important to a practicing witch. Secure in the knowledge, however limited, of the higher self's eternal existence, witches are free to choose their fates and destinies based upon what feels good and right to the individual. Witches understand there is no right or wrong, only the states of past, present, and future. What has been—has been and cannot be changed. What is—is—and exists between those moments of unchangeable and changeable. And what will be—is subject to change—based upon actions taken or not taken right now.
Witchcraft and Magic
So, one might ask, "Where does magic fit into all of this?" Magic is only one component of witchcraft, but one of the most important components. Magic lives in the present—between the past and future. It draws upon the forces that exist all around us and is employed to manipulate the future from the present. Magic is a tool by which witches are able to shape their fates and destinies. Magic is the power of witchcraft.
