Within Stregheria are found 3 different traditions, or "sects". These would be Janarra, Tanarra, and Fanara. In short, the Stregha (witch) wouldn't refer to their practice as Stregha, or Stregheria unless they were referring to the actual practice or practitioner. What it does is allow for strengths to be focused on as well as create a good diversity within the practice.
It is said that when Aradia first brought "La Vecchia Religione" (The old religion) back to her people (the Italians) she taught them all the secrets of the earth, moon, and stars. In the 14th century the persecution of Witches was coming to a head. Italy was one of the last countries to begin the practice as I recall, but it was at this point that the religion split, not long after Aradia moved on as I understand it. It isn't really known fact as to why the religion split, it could have been a difference of opinion within the tradition, or it could have been a survival tactic.
Fanara- Are those who keep and protect the mysteries of the very earth. This practice was/is centered around Northern Italy. They would study and understand the mysteries of such things as lay lines, the trees, and other things which are of the earth.
Janarra- Are those would be the keepers of the Lunar mysteries. They are entrusted with Lunar energies, their effects on things like the earth, and on our bodies, as well as it's more magical properties. They like the next were centered within Central Italy
Tanarra Like the Janarra are centered around central Italy, and they would be the keepers of the stars, or the keepers of the "stellar" mysteries. Studying such things as astrologies, star patterns, and other such sciences.
Now, the leaders of each of the three would be called "Grimas" and each of these leaders must have at least a basic knowledge of the other two traditions as well. These are the people who are responsible for keeping the purity of the religion, as well as maintaining, and ensuring it's continued existence in harsh times, and the good one's. Another aspect of their responsibilities are to ensure that when new knowledges are added, that they never deviate from the original focus of the old religion.
Also, there is a modern 4th tradition, began by Raven Grimassi here in the states. What Raven has done is worked to bring together the other 3 traditions and reconstruct the original set of beliefs and practices that Aradia taught all those years ago before their separation. The tradition is called the Aradian Tradition.
