Recommended Pagan Forums.

This thread may be part of what keeps us from growing. Theres probably a reason other forums don't allow them...I'm not saying we could never have a similar forum, I just wonder if we should get out foot in the door first?

i think we should keep it. there are alot of members who have other forums they are a part of, and they want to share.

I just worry, it's as Pel pointed out...No-one is going to just advertise us...Look what happened when our URL was on Branwen's for 6 hr.s we got Pel, and I'm pretty sure that was where E-Pagan came from too. I don't know I'll leave it to this pole I suppose...I'm torn on it.

I'm not sure if my opinion matters or not, but I voted probably. I suspect that if too many alternatives are given, it can hurt you rather than help you. I would agree that once you're big enough and established it wouldn't hurt to have this thread again.

Yes, your oppinion matters, and thank-you for posting it. I don't want to get rid of it either, but I think it may be a good idea...For now.

I vote mabye. I know it seems a waste of a vote but im honestly not sure. I doubt it will cause alot of trouble though. But as people have said when this forum is still taking its first wee steps it may not be a good idea to advertise other forums in this way. The banners are all ok as we are sharing banners but this thread may be abit much. If another pagan forum wants to advertise then we can do the banner sharing we dont really have to have a thread about it.

Also their sites can be posted in their signatures. What we need is a big ol save the wolves site to merge with

(I'm kidding btw) but all seriousness aside...We can't really afford to loose any potential members right now.

but these members came from other sites, and if we just have the ones that we are running and stop that would be fine. but for the members we have currently i think it should stay.

Well, I can see you feel pretty strongly about this. Unless we get some defiantly votes and a good strong argument as to why they voted that way I suppose the board will stand, as I for one have no proof that deleting the board would change anything. Lets just concentrate on getting organized for now, and come back to this later and see where we are.

I was thinking about this today, and I believe I have come to a conclusion ... ready for it? It's pretty good:

I found my way here through Branwen's, which is also a good source of information. I still post there from time to time, but I'm most active here. I've looked around at some other sites and forums, but this is where I most feel at home. That's the reason I'm here. And since one of the purposes of this site IMHO is to find and attract like-minded individuals, I would want people to be able to see other options and still choose to stay here because it's where they're most comfortable. We shouldn't be hiding other sites and limiting a person's choices in an effort to keep them here.
I also think that allowing an area for links is beneficial in that it gives someone a chance to gain more information and explore different views more easily. As much information that we place on our own boards, there is still going to be another fact or point of view out there somewhere else. It would better help someone to define their own path if they could be exposed to as much as possible. I believe that's why most people begin searching for a group like this: to define their path.

So ... we should make available as much information as we can, even if it's in the form of other websites and forums, so we can help a person define their path and also help them find a place they feel comfortable. Hopefully they will realize that this is the best place to be because it's the friendliest, most helpful, and open-minded group of individuals that they will ever be able to find.
Perhaps the links section should be a bit more organized, though.

I have no problem with keeping it for now, either. If it comes to the point where people are coming on and their one post is to advertise their forum, then I say lock it or remove those posts and keep it up for the members. For all the forums out there, many people will only go to a couple, so I don't think we will see a lot of abuse. And if I am wrong, we can always take it off at any time.

It just seems more difficult to locate a website within the thread because it looks a bit cluttered with a lot of other conversation. If we had a place that showed just the links and a description, I think that would help a lot. Possibly somewhere only the mods could write, and a person could ask to put up a certain site there. We wouldn't need to get rid of anything that we already have, we could just add this other thread/board/post/whatever (not sure how these things work).
