haha, I heard this summary of the Bible, and it seems to hold some truth and save a lot of reading time ...
Old Testament: don't mess with God New Testament: be nice to people

i just watched lewis black yesterday, have to re-watch it, but he said something to the similar. The God of the Old Testament was pissed off and the God of the new Testament was happy, what was the change? Was it the kid, now that God has a son, he's happy? And he's jewish, so of course there was some insightfull comments on Christians and their interpretations of Their (the jews') book! I couldn't stop laughing.....Red, White and Screwed on HBO. It's great both on the Political front AND the religious!

Fundamentalist christians believe the the bible is "THE WORD OF GOD" (all caps intentional, and if I could get an echo please.) Everything in it is the literal truth. Therefore you get the Jerry Falwells et al. thumping this book that has been changed and re-written to fit Constantine's vision or King James' vision. Catholics are a bit more "loose" with the bible interpretations and believe that it is filled with "divine symbolism" (good description!) It is interesting to see how these men (ok, the women let them, but they didn't have a voice!) have taken the "WORD OF GOD" and made it fit so that, instead of an all Loving God, we get the God of Vengence, the God of Hate, the God of Homophobia. An Eye for and Eye, Stone the Adulterers, Suffer not a witch to live...when, from what I believe was a God/dess of Love. Turn the other cheek, Love thy neighbor...those are the messages they should be supporting, don'cha think? I think that the Catholics may have it right...at least to a degree..
