I was hoping someone would bring this up! It just proved to me something I always felt, but could never "prove":
I don't think Christianity can be just black or white. There are many shades of gray in between - and if we look at the New Testament as the be all end all - I think we're missing a lot of wonderful, spiritual truths.

I have often wondered about the Judas part of the Jesus story. It seemed to me if the birth, life, and death of Jesus was pre-ordained (ie, HAD to be to fulfill the prophecy and save mankind), then Judas had no choice but to turn him in. I, personally, have always thought Judas got a bum rap - he had the second hardest job of all, except Jesus himself!

I'm not sure about that. What about James or another brother/sister of Jesus? What would that be like?
"you're so lazy! Your brother died for the sins of mankind, what have you done lately?"

LOL! I can't imagine how that would feel. ;D
I was talking about the theory that Jesus was married and had children with my mother-in-law today - and she said, "well, they haven't lived up to their ancestry"
I laughed, but thought it was an interesting comment.

I heard about this on the news! Very interesting indeed. I studied alot of the gospel texts for a Religious Studies class i took last year. I felt sorry for Judas when reading about his part in the story. Christians are allways taught that God has a divine plan. So if this is true ot would have been his plan for Judas to betray Jesus. But then why does it say in the Bible "It would have been better if he was never born." It seems unfair that from birth Judas was preordained to betray jesus, then kill himslef in guilt and then go to hell. This newly discovered text seems to make alot more sense.

Not to bring up even controversy, but I wonder if y'all have ever heard the cases made that Jesus of Nazareth, and someone else (I'll need to research it) learned their healing arts in the east, like India (Though that wasn't the only place).

I remember hearing that it was Egypt while he and his family were living there after escaping from Herod after his birth. Maybe it was from the Dead Sea Scrolls, though I can't remember for sure.

A guy I know at work that preaches on the weekends told me that he wasn't going to bother to read it since the "four" take up most of his time to begin with. It all comes down to fear of losing faith.

Doesn't surprise me since the bible has no historical support outside of it's pages...anything goes.

Doesn't surprise me since the bible has no historical support outside of it's pages...anything goes. The new testament I'd agree on, which has be altered X times by X number of people until it wouldn't even be recognizable to it's original authors. Also I think that it's something like the Torah, and wasn't necessarily meant to be taken at face value, but rather as a divine symbolism perhaps.

They went to Egypt, but Maria , His mother was from the Essenes, there they taught magic and secrets as in few other places at that time - Dead Sea Scrolls are from those guys. Maria was thosen as the best and fairest of these witches. So between her teachings and the secrets of the Egypts

Fundamentalist christians believe the the bible is "THE WORD OF GOD" (all caps intentional, and if I could get an echo please.) Everything in it is the literal truth. Therefore you get the Jerry Falwells et al. thumping this book that has been changed and re-written to fit Constantine's vision or King James' vision. Catholics are a bit more "loose" with the bible interpretations and believe that it is filled with "divine symbolism" (good description!)
It is interesting to see how these men (ok, the women let them, but they didn't have a voice!) have taken the "WORD OF GOD" and made it fit so that, instead of an all Loving God, we get the God of Vengence, the God of Hate, the God of Homophobia. An Eye for and Eye, Stone the Adulterers, Suffer not a witch to live...when, from what I believe was a God/dess of Love. Turn the other cheek, Love thy neighbor...those are the messages they should be supporting, don'cha think?
