I was giving it some thought, do people think the Karma meter can be something directed at posts and not at popularity? Or should I leave things as they are?

I'm going ahead and voting a yes....
Now, what it boils right down to.. The Karma meter is a popularity contest plain and simple.. It will continue to be... No way to get around it..
It's up to you if you want to enable it again... I think that if it is, then people need to grow up and deal with it..
Smitings are not something that should be complained about...It's going to happen.. Now, if it's going to be about peoples feelings being hurt, then, don't do it...
I really don't care one way or the other... let people do what they will with it

Whether or not you agree with it but more of the way it is written. It does become a popularity contest. I wish it wouldn't because I liked it. But the downfalls are there....I'm going to wait a few before I decide on which way.

If for example a smiting occurred then it should be used against a flamer or troll, or against an all around bad post, not to be used because you don't like some one to come in every day and smite them every time it gives you a chance, if that happens again it will be gone for good. I am willing to give it one more chance if people will use it for what it meant to be used for...So I will vote yes.

Why not just tell the poster, "hey good post"? Or invalidate what is said, nicely. Karma is sneaky and once again it tastes bad to me, that's MHO. >^-.-^<
