Can you define it? I believe it is mastery of intent...Can you take a stab at it?

I posted this elsewhere but thought it would answer your question here...
I don't see magic as a separate step or action. There is power and vibration and energy in everything around us. That I tap into that energy when I make an herbal tea, take a walk through the woods, prepare a meal, guide a meditation for someone or step between the mists... it is just a part of everything I do. I've been doing it for so long I don't even think about it any longer for the most part.

While I would agree that there are vibrations within all things, I see this as a creative force of creation, which could I suppose be considered a type of 'magic'...I see this force as a separate energy from say candle magics or even herbal magics etc. It seems to me that magic as practiced through spells and the like are a separate energy, or entity...Though I wonder if separate is the correct word? Magic to me is working one's will without direct action.

Okay, so you see the 'magic' as the three knots I tied on my Samhain bundle before I offered it to the fire... for example, or the three knots I tie on each of my tea bags... the intentions I place in the knots, let's say...

I believe that in truth, what we define as 'magic' is what both of you said at once, as I believe Senbecc was leaning towards. While these vibrations are indeed the force of creation, the 'green word' as I like to call it, they too are a way through which we may work magic in a multitude of ways, ranging from our connections to these vibrations and the ways in which we can subtly alter them to bring about an effect to using herbs and other such things to bring about changes. I also agree that accomplishing one's will without direct action is another definition of magic, and the one most likely to be accepted as the most correct definition. However, in my opinion, both of these are, and equally so, magic. I do not think separate was the word you were looking for Senbecc, for they are both different yet the same, and so often connected even if in merely the subtlest ways. These two 'forms' of magic are like the trees of the forest which vary greatly yet are still trees, and though they are both individiual trees and different sorts of trees, they are all connected through being part of the same forest. This is how I view magic myself.
