i bet you are a little confused. well i send my child to a christian mothers day out school. its on a better educational level than just a daycare. so against my apprehensions, he has been there for a year. for the most part its great. everyday that my son goes to school he gets to do a art project, learn a bible lesson, and exercise. he gets papers sent home about how his day went, and a daily devotional. well today's devotional was this: My Prayer Dear Jesus, thank you for giving your life so that God can forgive the wrong things i have done. Amen. my son is 2 and a half, he does not have anything he needs to ask forgiveness for. this got my furr ruffled. what do you think?

Amen. my son is 2 and a half, he does not have anything he needs to ask forgiveness for. this got my furr ruffled. what do you think? I have always had a problem with the idea of a child somehow "sinning" just by being born. You also see this pattern in Islam and the other religions that believe in eternal punishment, but it seems most prevelent in certain types of Christianity. When my sister died at age 5 and a preacher told her at the funeral that my sister was burning in hell because my mother had not had her baptised, that was the turning point for my mother and organized religion in general. Of course it is not all Christian sects that believes this, but just the idea of scaring a child into believing a certain way to me is the real sin! But, in defense of the school itself, I'm sure it is only teaching what it advertised, so you will either have to counteract it at home and fend off the fallout when he repeats what he is being taught at home or find another school for him becuase the school isn't going to change. Sorry, not much help was I? It is a difficult position to be in.

oh ya it is difficult being a parent no matter your religion. i do not have a problem with him learning about the bible. he would be lost in this society, without certain exposure to it. i do some here at home to counteract his learning prayers though. songs and stuff i dont mind but when we get to sins and sacrifice i get a lil peeved.

I find that devotional a little harsh too. Plus it ends up trivializing Christ's sacrifice. It's no longer a redemption of the spirit that draws you from eternal damnation and places you in the kingdom of paradise, it's an excuse to apologize for not picking up your toys or coloring on the wall.
As far as original sin is concerned, I can almost grasp the concept. My preacher once told me that there is only one unforgivable sin. Do you know what my reaction was? I immediately wanted to know what sin was unforgivable. There's no real reason that I need to know that. One could argue that it's curiosity or even that I want to know so I can stay away from it. I've heard one person say that it's just human nature. And that's the point. It is human nature. That's what original sin is all about. It's not about some person sinning eons ago and you taking the blame. It's a choice ingrained in each of us from the moment we took our first breath. Should I choose right or wrong? good or evil? Every person is tainted with evil because every person has a spark of the divine. It's free will. We have to decide which path to take. Every time you hold your tongue or drop your fists in the face of anger, you've chosen the divine.
wow, this has gotten really off-topic. sorry about that

dont worry about getting off topic! lol. i really do not like the "ask no questions" part of christianity. if we had all the rules laid out, wouldnt we be better people?
i hate the parts of sin that fall on my son. i had to deal with all that crap when i was younger, my mother was unwed, underage, and did drugs. my father no better. oh and to top all that i wasnt christened. so i was heathen from the word GO. when you are a young child, worshiping a god, and you find out there are already marks against you- it makes you kinda miserable. all of that happened before i was born- i cannot do a single thing about. so to lay it out: i could worship till my face turned blue, i was still a person of great sin. all under the age of 12.

true, but most protestants believe only in original sin and not in the sins of the parent falling on the offspring. I'm not exactly sure how they would explain that rationale, but I'm sure it has something to do with the "fall of man." I'm sorry you had to go through that.

i am in christian school and it is very hard. please consider how your child will find it, and be treated there, if they are openly pagan. i am told to "burn in hell" a lot. it sucks.

Acquire a cows (beef) tongue from your local butcher. Write the names of your adversaries on individual slips of paper about the size of a fortune in a fortune cookie. Each name gets it's own paper. Using a sharp knife, cut slits in the beef tongue, one slit per paper. Insert one name paper into each slit. Sprinkle with cayenne pepper and vinegar (4 Thieves is recommended but not neccessary) Close the slits with pins and needles. Wrap the tongue and place it securely in your freezer.
