There are a lot of passages in the Bible talking about priests having wives. Speficially Leviticus 21, I believe, that says a priest should take a wife in her virginity. I think priests should be able to have wives. A friend of mine and I were talking about it recently and he believes the church'll change soon. do you really think it will change? oh it will change. newer popes are probably easier to pressure. He'll want to make a few changes anyway to establish his rule in history, especially at the beginning of a new century. Maybe this A&E series will spark something.

I don't believe that it will.
A few years back The Church decided it was OK to have female Alter Girls. I was happy to see it.
At the church I was attending, they reviewed that policy and decided to go back to all male alter boys.
The Church is steeped in Tradition. Whether that tradition is ultimately good for the whole of the Church seems irrelevant.

I think it's because the Church really has a problem with the whole Woman thing. Maybe it's because some pagan religions are female oriented, (The Goddess, HP, etc), and they want to go in the opposite direction of that.

Maybe it's because some pagan religions are female oriented, (The Goddess, HP, etc), and they want to go in the opposite direction of that. Very true! The early church worked very hard to stamp out paganism and the Goddess. The Roman emperor Constantine started the onslaught when he converted to Christianity at the time when Christianity was struggling to gain a foothold. Any Goddesses they couldn't get rid of due to opposition, they simply turned in saints...such as "Saint" Brigid (Celtic Goddess of fire and healing.) I have spoke with Catholic priests on several occasions in my past that emphaticallly stated that they would never see women as members of the priesthood. It is even prevalent with Christianity today as many organizations prevent women from the pulpit, quoting a verse from the bible to support their position. (verse to come)

Which really makes no sense. Women are powerful. The Church knows that. It's a threat.

Which really makes no sense. Women are powerful. The Church knows that. It's a threat. The patriarcal churches all know that women are "more powerful" than men simply because we are the ones that give birth. That is the power that they have always been afraid of and are afraid of today.

My mother had a kidney stone recently and she said she'd rather give birth. I guess it's because some kidney stones are sharp and tear everything in their path the entire length of their route out. Take a look at some of these bad boys: www.herringlab.com/photos/index.html

I spoke to a Fundamentalist Christian, and he had a surprising take on the whole Adam and Eve thing.
He felt that Eve was the stronger one, and that's why the "devil" used her to tempt the weaker person (Adam)
I can almost buy that.
